The recent conference about abortion hosted by the National Alliance for Life (NAL) was truly inspiring. One of the topics that was covered is called "11^th Hour Counselling". This involves pro-life volunteers that stand nearby the abortion clinic, eg Mary Stopes and try to get the pregnant mother to talk to them, offering her counselling. One of the speakers, Prof. Pat McEwen from the United States, whom I had the privilege of meeting, is actively involved in this field, and in the States, tremendous success has been the result of their persevering and courageous efforts. Doctors For Life has adopted the American model and two training courses were presented prior to the NAL conference to equip volunteers with knowledge about e.g.: the medical and psychological effects of abortion, the types of abortion, a basic understanding of foetal development, guidlines regarding the conversation and more. During one of our first outreaches, one mother decided against having an abortion and another found comfort and forgiveness.
